Mondomanila (Khavn de la Cruz, Philippinen / Deutschland 2012)


Das philippinische Independent-Punk-enfant terrible KHAVN hat einen neuen Film gemacht, der seit gestern sogar in ausgesuchten Kinos läuft und von REM sowohl produziert wurde als auch vertrieben wird. Ein wilder Ritt in das Herz der Dunkelheit Manilas ist das, und ich darf sagen, er gefällt mir ähnlich - aber anders - gut, wie VAMPIRE OF QUEZON CITY. Jedenfalls, er ist ein Film, der sich zwischen alle Stühle setzt. Und MONDOMANILA ist vor allem eines: er ist nicht kompatibel – nicht zu unseren Sehgewohnheiten, nicht zu den Ansprüchen unseres sogenannten Arthousekinos, das eigentlich ein mit schönen Bildern konsumierbar gemachtes, abgemildertes Betroffenheitskino ist, und auch nicht zum Imperativ der politischen Correctness der Alternativkulturen. Khavn schert sich offensichtlich einen Scheißdreck um das alles. Nur gut kommen, das muss es. Für Hard Sensations habe ich mir den Film angesehen, ebendort findet ihre meine Filmkritik.

Abschied

Micha hat diesen Blog fast 15 Jahre mit großer Leidenschaft geführt. Seine Liebe zum asiatischen Kino hat ihn in dieser Zeit in Kontakt mit ganz unterschiedlichen Menschen gebracht. Viele von euch waren ihm, wenn auch nicht räumlich, so doch gedanklich und emotional sehr nah. Jetzt ist er am 30.12.2021 zuhause in Bonn gestorben. Ich habe mich entschlossen, Michas Schneeland-Blog auch in Zukunft nicht offline zu stellen. So können Interessierte weiterhin all die klugen, detailgenauen und begeisternden Gedanken zum asiatischen Kino nachlesen, die er über die Jahre festgehalten hat.  Neben seinem Blog hatte Micha 2021 noch ein neues Projekt aufgenommen: Gemeinsam mit der Videokünstlerin Sandra Ehlen und Thomas Laufersweiler von SchönerDenken hatte er begonnen, in einem Podcast das filmische Werk von Keisuke Kinoshita zu besprechen. 25 Beiträge sind so bis zu Michas Tod im Dezember noch entstanden. Two famous female writers from Japan: Yû Miri's 'Tokyo Ueno Station' & Hiromi Kawakami's 'People from my Neighbourhood'

TOKYO UENO STATION is not a straight narrative, but rather a quite experimental novel. As "the plot" unravels in flashbacks - by an obscure, already seemingly dead medium floating around Ueno park, the story of a life of hardship  is slowly being revealed. Of heavy labor, broken families, financial troubles and finally: homelessness. This is not the exotistic Japan you will find on a successful youtuber's channel. The events get illustrated by those of "greater dimensions", like the historical events around Ueno park hill during the Tokugawa period, the Great Kanto earthquake, the fire bombings at the end of WW II or the life of the Emperor. Quite often, Yû Miri uses methods of association, of glueing scraps and bits of pieces together in order to abstractly poetize the narrative flow . Aido: Slave of Love (Susumu Hani, Japan 1969)

Here are some pictures I took during a private screening of Susumu Hani's extremely rare and seldom seen feature film  AIDO - SLAVE OF LOVE , which is the movie Hani made after the famous NANAMI: INFERNO OF FIRST LOVE. The film is beautifully shot, completely absorbing and structurally abandoning all narrative consensus - it is somehow - for most of the time - a subjective trip into the mind of the protagonist Shusei (Kenzo Kawarasaki). As you can asume, a dreamlike state predominates the film; and with its' devotion to extensively focussing on the details of the body while making love, presented in detailed close-ups, aswell as its' beautifully daring setpieces, it reminded me to some extent of Toshio Matsumoto's experimental oeuvre, as for example in his short film PHANTOM .
